Birthday parties, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and more are holidays and special occasions that are centered on food. For most people these are times to anticipate the celebration and the eating. For a diabetic it can be a stressful time, you want to partake in all of the good food too but most times it is not made with a diabetic in mind. If the frequency of these events is not too often, you can adjust your diet for special occasions so you too can have some of the treats available.

The hardest part about preparing for a special occasion is if you do not know what is going to be served. If this is the case, a quick call to your host or hostess can be made. Most people will not mind you asking especially if you have dietary needs that need to be taken into consideration. Once you do know what is being served, plan your meals for
that day accordingly. You may want to have fewer carbohydrates with your breakfast and snack to make up for the extra ones you will have at a birthday party where pizza is being served.

Another option for special occasions is to offer to bring a dish for everyone to share. Make it something that you enjoy as a treat but still follows the guidelines for your diabetic diet.

For family favorites and traditions, be creative and look for ways to make the same dishes with less fat or sugar. You can do this by substituting regular sugar for sugar substitutes or choose whole wheat flour instead of white for the extra fiber content.

During the holidays and other occasions, closely monitor your blood sugars. Even with extra care, the change in your diet can still result in a blood sugar that is too high or low.

Hair combing is a routine activity of almost all people. Some people keep a particular hair style throughout their life and some especially younger generation adopt new styles according to new trends and fashion.Hair styles has got close relation with the personality of a person. The hair of an unhygeinic person is usually tangled and dirty because of lack of washing and combing. To have a healthy scalp hair proper nutrition is needed.General health has got direct relation with the quality and quantity of hair.Regular washing, use of hair oil, proper combing ect are also needed to make the hair beautiful.General hints for combing is discussed here.

1) Different varieties of combs are available in the market. The best comb is selected by considering the nature of hair(hard or soft, long or short) ,style and convenience.

2) Combing should be done with utmost care and concentration. Some people especially gents think about some other matters and comb without any care which may be harmful to the hairs.

3) Combing should be gentle .A vigorous combing can increase hairfalling.

4) Do not comb if the hair is wet. First dry it with a towel and then put some oil and gently massage it.Now the combing will be easy and harmless.

5) Should not be combed in the opposite direction of hairs. This can increase hair falling.

6) Vigorous combing in backward direction can produce traction baldness.

7) Frequent combing can damage the scalp and the hair follicles. Those who carry pocket comb use it frequently and make it a habit.Combing two or three times in a day is sufficient.

The tooth of the comb should not be sharp and it should not be pressed too tightly on the scalp.

9) Always clean the comb before and after use because hair and dirt deposited in the gap will make combing diffucult and painful.

10) Others comb should not be used. This helps to prevent fungal and bacterial infections.Head lice can also spread from one person to other by sharing the combs.

Since predominance sets you endangered for many health problems, you may need to set some weight loss plans to help avoid those risks and prevent disease.

Weight-loss goals can mean the difference between success and loss mean. Well-planned weight-loss goals keep you focused and motivated. They make a plan available for change, as you think approximately and transition to your healthy lifestyle.

Here are some guidelines from the experts in choosing weight loss plans and goals.

1. Personalize your goals.

Set goals that are within your capabilities and take into account your limitations. Also, take into account your personal fitness level, health concerns, available time and motivation. Tailoring your expectations to your personal situation helps you set achievable goals.

2. Set appropriate objectives

Using a weight loss plan just for vanity’s sake is psychologically less helpful than losing weight to improve health.

You have made a big step forward if you decide to undergo a weight loss plan that includes exercise and eating right so that you will feel better and have more energy to do something positive in your life.

3. Focus on the process

Rather than saying that you are going to lose a pound this week, say how much you are going to exercise this week. This would definitely make up of a sensible weight loss plan.

Keep in mind that your weight within a span of a week is not completely in your control, but your behavior is.

4. Build bit by bit

Short-term weight loss plans should not be “pie-in-the-sky.” This means that when you have never exercised at all, your best weight loss plan for this week should be based on finding three different one-mile routes that you can walk next week.

5. Keep up the self-encouragement

An all-or-nothing attitude only sets you up to fail. Learn to evaluate your efforts fairly and objectively. If you fall short of some goals, just look ahead to next week. You do not need to have a perfect record.

After all, self-encouragement should definitely be a part of your weight loss plans. Otherwise, you will just fail in the end.

6. Use measurable measures

The fact that you will be more positive this week or that you will keep seriously real, this week is not to be said a goal, which you can measure and a part of your weight loss plan should not be.

This is another reason, why her exercise on your weight loss plan and focus on it contained should. They should be able to count up the minutes of the exercise in order to be successful in your plan. The final result is people should weight loss plans form, which remain only, while it is, a straight plan.

They must put it into practice, by containing goals, which motivate them, in order to follow.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) involves the use of Chinese herbal medicine, Acupuncture, Moxibustion, Qi gong, Tuina (Chinese massage), and a medicated diet, and is one of the world’s most ancient medical systems, with its own principles, diagnostic methods and therapies. It has become very popular in the west.

Meridians and Collaterals

TCM views the meridians and collaterals networks using Zang-Fu, which categorises tissues and organs in an organic whole. Each Zang and Fu organ transports Qi and blood, and regulates Yin and Yang, maintaining the functions and activities of all parts of the body. This system guides the diagnosis, treatment and application of all the branch subjects of TCM.

Yin and Yang

TCM also holds as its central belief that health in all parts of body is due to the relationship between Yin and Yang. Yin and Yang theory is the general principle used to classify in TCM’s holistic approach to health and disease, and also offers a clinical guide to preventing and curing disease.

Diagnosis

TCM’s diagnosis depends merely on the doctor’s sense organs to acquire clinical data. It mainly consists of the four techniques of diagnosis, namely: interrogation, inspection, auscultation (listening) and olfaction (smelling), pulse feeling and palpation.

Treatment

TCM has three basic components: Chinese herbal therapy, Acupuncture and Tuina (Chinese massage) therapy, and Diet therapy.

Chinese herbal therapy

This is based on the principle that good health depends on achieving optimum vitality and balance – a balance described in terms of the polarity of Yin and Yang.

Chinese herbs come from nature, and include flowers, stems, leaves, roots and barks. Each herb has its own specific characteristics. Their different characteristics are employed to treat disease, rectify the hyperactivity or hypoactivity of Yin or Yang, and help the body restore its normal physiological functions – consequently, curing the disease and restoring health.

Chinese herbal administration (herbal dosages and powder forms) usually depends on your condition, your constitution and age. It should be larger for serious emergencies and stubborn problems with a young and strong patient, smaller for mild problems, and with the aged, the frail, and with children and pregnant women.

The doctor will carefully select different herbal dosages or powder forms to treat you as your treatment starts, and closely monitor your progress through regular consultations. As your condition change, the treatment will be altered accordingly.

Acupuncture and Tuina therapy

These are two practical therapies in TCM. They are to regulate the meridians or channels of the body, to unblock the stagnation of Qi and blood, and balance Yin and Yang, maintaining their function, via the extraordinary points, scalp points, auricular points, and other special points by needle (in the case of Acupuncture) or by the fingers, hands and limbs of the Tuina therapist.

When using Tuina for infant and prenatal care, some special points exist besides the acupoints on the 14 meridians and extra-points. Manipulation using pushing, kneading, rubbing is mostly used.

measuring the waistline

Diet Therapy

Each food (vegetable, fruit, meal, nut, etc.) has its own specific characteristics. We can guide you to the best foods to treat your condition, in accordance with the actual condition of disease, the characters and functions of the foods, and therapeutic requirements found through the doctor’s consultation.

Other treatments

Moxibustion, Cupping therapy, Ear authority, Electrolysis, Electrotherapy (without needle) are often used. All of them work by same principles of acupuncture therapy.

What does Chinese Medicine treat?

TCM treats your mind and body as a whole, not just the condition. Using the principles of TCM, a very wide variety of conditions, and any age can be helped, including:

1.Common Internal Diseases

Anaemia, Asthma, Arthritis, Cerebral Thrombosis, Cold, Colitis, Constipation, Constipation, Cholecystitis, Coronary Heart Disease, Digestive Ulcers, Diabetes, Diarrhoea, Oedema, Flu, Gout, Headaches, Hypertension, Hyperlipoproteinemia, Hay fever, Irritable bowel syndrome, Malabsorption, Nephritis, Neurosis, Neurasthenia, Thyroid, Pneumonia, Pancreatitis, etc.

2.Women’s problems

Pre-menstrual syndrome, Painful periods, Menopausal syndromes, endometriosis, Sterility, Morning sick, Pelvic Inflammation, etc.

3.Men’s problems

Ejaculation Praecox, Hypertrophy, Low Steam Court, Impotence, Prostitutes, Sex Drive Problems.

4.Skin problems

Herpes Zoster, Contact Dermatitis, Eczema, Urticaria, Neurodermatitis, Psoriasis, Acne Vulgaris, Alopecia Areata, Resaca, etc.

5.Muscular, neurological, skeletal and vascular problems

Arthritis, Back Pain, Frozen Shoulder, Gonitis, Hemiplegia, Lumbago (lower back pain), Neuralgia, Omalgia, Sciatica, Stiff Neck Stroke, Sprain, Sports Injury, Tennis Elbow, Trigeminal, Tendon Injury, etc.

6.Mental and Emotional Problems

Anxiety, Depression, Stress, Panic Attack, Insomnia, Palpitation, etc.

7.Ear, Nose, Throat and Ophthalmic Problems

Conjunctivitis, Optic Neuritis, Myopia, Obits Media, Sore Throat, Hay Fever, Halitosis, Pharyngitis, Rhinitis, Sinusitis, etc.

8.Oncology

Liver Cancer, Lung Cancer, Gastric Cancer, etc.

Green tea has been in use in traditional Chinese and Indian medicine, it has been used for centuries as a stimulant, astringent and to improve heart health. It is an effective remedy for rheumatoid arthritis, and certain immune deficiencies. Research by the scientific world first confirmed it’s health benefits only about a decade ago.

One main advantage is that it comes cheaper than many medicines and it is herbal. It has been researched a lot. Research shows that the most powerful antioxidant compounds in it are the polyphenols. They are flavonoids (catechin, epicatechin, epicatechin gallate, epigallocatechin gallate(EGCG), and proanthocyanidins). Catechins in it are over 200 times more powerful than vitamin E and helps in neutralizing the pro-oxidants and free radicals that attack lipids in the brain. Catechins are also more potent than vitamin C. It is rich in vitamin C. EGCG is said to be brain permeable, and it protects the brain.

Green tea and alzheimers

EGCG decreased production of beta-amyloid, a protein that forms the plaques that clog the brains of Alzheimer’s victims. Drinking more than two cups of it a day could cut the risk of dementia by half, had a 50 per cent lower chance of having cognitive impairment, compared to those who drank less than three cups a week. A British study found that drinking it inhibited three important brain-harming chemicals: acetylcholinesterase, butyrylcholinesterase, and beta-secretase. They are associated with breaking down chemical messengers and forming plaques and protein deposits in the noggin’s gray matter which hinders clear thinking.

Green tea and arthrosclerosis

Artherscloerosis will initiate heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases. Green tea has been extensively tested and been found to be highly beneficial in the reduction of blood pressure and aiding the recovery of heart attack victims. It also inhibits the unnatural formation of blood clots which have been known to cause thrombosis and stroke. Drinking it represses angiotensin II which leads to high blood pressure.

Green tea and autoimmune disorder

It protects from autoimmune disorders like xerostamina. It helps in reducing auto antigen levels in healthy cells while not in tumor cells and thus protecting the healthy cells.

Green tea and cancer

It helps in fighting as well as preventing cancer. Cancer is lower in countries where they drink lots of green tea. EGCG inhibit cancer by blocking the formation of cancer-causing compounds and suppressing the activation of carcinogens. It also inhibits cancer cells from growing. It binds to a specific enzyme called dihydrofolate reductase, in the body. Egcg helps in killing cancerous cells and stops its progression without attacking normal cells. There have been many studies that have shown that catechins in it are effective at preventing cancer. It helps in fighting bladder cancer, breast cancer, esophageal cancer, pancreatic cancer and colorectal cancer,

Green tea and cholesterol

Drinking it helps to keep cholesterol on a healthy level by its inhibitory effect on the intestinal absorption of cholesterol and promote its excretion from the body. It also helps against clot related strokes. At least 5 cups a day are recommended.

Green tea and diabetes

People who drink lots of green tea or coffee every day could lower their risk of diabetes by 33 percent. Green tea polyphenols and polysaccharides are good in the reduction of blood sugar. The researchers who conducted test on rat concluded that results clearly show intervention with it can significantly decrease visceral fat deposit and increase insulin sensitivity.

Green tea and liver disease

Those who drink it daily are less likely to get disorders in the liver. It also appears to protect the liver from the damaging effects of toxic substances such as alcohol. It may help treat inflammation of the liver. , protecting fatty livers from injury while reducing liver fat content by about 55 percent protect patients recovering from liver transplant. It can be a useful supplement in the treatment of liver disease and should be considered for liver conditions in which pro inflammatory and oxidant stress responses are dominant.

Green tea and skin care

It is anti-bacterial and helps in fighting acne and reduces inflammation. It protects the skin from the damage caused by ionizing radiation and aids in detoxification.

Green tea and weight loss

It helps in boosting metabolism and burn fat. It has thermogenic attributes which helps to raise the body temperature and burn calories up to 80 calorie daily. It also helps in fat oxidation. It helps in weight loss without raising heart beat. The thermogenic compound in green tea is caffeine. Other similar components in it that boost metabolism are theobromine and theophylline even though they are found in only small quantities . Recommended dose is 5 cups daily

Green tea and viral infection

EGCG strongly inhibited the replication of the HIV virus by blocking the binding of HIV envelope glycoprotein to human CD4 molecules on human T cells. Since this is, the first step in HIV infection it helps in preventing the first step in HIV infection. L-theanine in green tea triggers our body to produce 10 times their normal output of virus-battling interferon. Even gargling with it is effective when you have flu . They have strong antibacterial qualities.

Green tea side effects

Its extract has shown to be non-toxic but excessive amounts of caffeine from it may cause irritability, insomnia, heart palpitation, vomiting, diarrhea, and headache, loss of appetite, dizziness and nausea. .

The skin’s functions are many, as we have discussed in other, previous articles, and it’s health is not just dependant upon good quality natural skin care products, although they do help considerably.

This article on natural skin care looks at the various foods, vitamins, minerals and micro-nutrients that positively affect your skin. In addition we’ll look at specific nutrients for specific skin types, as it stands to reason, that oily skin would benefit from some foods, while dry, irritated and sensitive skin would suite other foods.

Before looking at individual food, lets consider some overall factors, which we should consider in our diet.

First and foremost, water. It is essential that we consume 8-10 glasses (250ml) of water per day, more if we exercise or are physically active. Secondly, regardless of what foods we eat, we should have a minimum of 15 different vegetables, fruits and nuts in our diet (in total that is). Thirdly, we should eat our biggest meal early in the day and the smallest meal late. Most people do not do this and actually have it the other way around. Think of it from this point of view – at what stage of the day do you have most of your activity in front of you – well, that’s the time to eat the biggest meal.

If you want your skin to look attractive and healthy there are several rules you must follow. The most important is cleansing with natural and reviving substances, because a clean skin is bound to look healthier. Since constant washing removes most natural oils and moisture, and even the acid mantel covering, you must consciously replace these oils, moisture and acids to re-establish the skin’s protective covering.

Your diet should be high in proteins, which can be found in lean meat, fish, and poultry as well as in nuts, beans, milk and eggs. Raw vegetables and fruit of all kinds are essential. Several glasses of water (this is much underestimated in it’s importance) each day are essential to flush the system clear of toxins. Below is a list of important nutrients, their benefits to the skin and the foods in which they are found. This list is by no means exhaustive, however it does provide a good starting point for utilising food as part of your skin care regime.

The primary skin types are Oily, Normal and Dry. There are other skin types such as sensitive, mature or a combination there of. However, there is usually a dominant, primary skin type.

Of all the products for skin care out there have you ever wondered if there are effective medicinal herbs for skin conditions? Let’s look at the ingredients in some of the herbal skin care products on the market and see what they are really good for.

Balm of Gilead

This is included in products designed to treat eczema and repair damage. It was not one of the traditional medicinal herbs for skin. Although it has a long history as fragrant cologne, there are no known benefits for the skin’s health.

Gardenia

This is included in herbal skin care products designed to moisturize, although the oil is not known for its moisturizing abilities. Once again, it is prized for its sweet scent. Unfortunately, the scent is known to cause headaches, trigger asthma attacks and cause other adverse reactions. No benefits for this one either.

Citric Acid

This is not one of the traditional skin care medicinal herbs. Yet, it is found in numerous creams, some of which claim to be “extra gentle.” It is a weak acid, but it is still an acid. It is known to damage the skin, as well as the hair. There are extracts from citrus fruits that are non-acidic and provide the antioxidant benefits that products containing citric acid claim to provide.

Manuka Honey

This is often listed alongside other medicinal herbs for skin conditions. It is not, of course, an herb, but bees gather their pollen from plants and to many of us,traditional remedies do not necessarily have to be herbaceous.

Honey has longed been valued for its benefits to the skin’s health and the overall health of the body. Scientific evaluation has proven that all varieties of honey have some antibacterial and antioxidant activity. Manuka is simply the most active variety.

Benefits have been seen when it is used to heal blemishes, acne, eczema and psoriasis. It has been recommended recently for treating the antibiotic resistant staph infections and for treating diabetes related skin ulcers. Many herbal skin care products contain some type of honey. Manuka is the one to look for.

Jojoba and Coffeeberry

These two are traditional medicinal herbs to treat skin injuries, burns and other conditions. They are, in actuality, the same plant.Â

Herbal skin care products containing jojoba have been shown to moisturize, but are also beneficial for treating acne. A component of the plant balances the production of sebum, the skin’s natural oils.

Jojoba herbal skin care products have numerous benefits. It helps to reduce wrinkles and stretch marks. It lightens and helps heal scars. It is useful in treating psoriasis and other problems. For moisturizing, it has a dual benefit, in that it forms a non-greasy layer that prevents water-loss through the skin. It is also quickly absorbed by the skin’s cells, to soften and nourish them.Â

It is one of the natural extracts that is rich in vitamin E, a necessary nutrient and beneficial antioxidant. Antioxidants help repair and prevent damage from the sun and pollution.

There are many other beneficial medicinal herbs for skin problems. There’s just no way to list all of them here, but you have a good start.
